The C.W. Steers Biological Resource Center
This complex consists of over 34,000 sq ft for housing
and support services for rodents, rabbits, sheep, pigs, dogs and
chickens. The specialized facilities for sheep of 4,480 sq ft (including
outdoor pens) include two fully equipped operating suites, animal
preparation area and recovery room. One room is equipped with x-ray and
fluoroscopy equipment. Other facilities include an animal diagnostic
laboratory and special hepa-filtered rooms for research requiring sterile
air. The C. W. Steers Biological Resource Center is staffed by a
full-time veterinarian and other technical staff. It has been accredited
by the AALAC continuously since 1972. All activities are performed in
accordance with standards set forth in the NIH Guide for the Care and
Use of Laboratory Animals and the Animal Welfare Act. |
