Clinic:
-Goals and Objectives:
To learn skills related to the treatment of ambulatory patients with
thyroid pathology that requires radionuclide iodine treatment. Patients
seen in this venue include the full range of thyroid diseases requiring
radioiodine imaging or treatment.
-Teaching Methodology:
The faculty of the nuclear medicine thyroid clinic are from the
radiology department and they are licensed to administer radionuclide to
patients for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Patient-based
mentored assessment of historical findings, examination and the
therapeutic plan, is implemented by this faculty. Each patient is seen by
both the resident and the faculty attending. Theoretical issues along
with diagnostic and strategies are discussed. This clinic is attended by
residents two times a week. Each resident will attend six sessions per
year.
-Method of Evaluation:
All subspecialty residents are evaluated by the nuclear medicine
faculty at the end of the rotation. In addition endocrinology residents
evaluate the clinic as an educational experience.
